Continuous Arm Windsor Chairs
The continuous arm Windsor chair is a classic American design recognised by its single steam-bent arm that flows in three dimensions around the chair back. This elegant yet robust form requires considerable skill to produce and remains one of the most distinctive Windsor chair styles.
These chairs are handmade in my Somerset workshop using traditional construction methods and locally sourced hardwoods, and are not commonly available in the UK.
Please note that I currently offer these chairs with ash components and either an ash or elm seat.
An American continuous arm. Recognised by its single steam-bent arm that flows around the back of the chair. This elegant design combines strength with visual lightness. Traditionally made with ash components and an ash or elm seat, finished with Danish oil and hot wax.
An American back hoop diner. This design complements the continuous arms and is derived from an illustration of an 18th century American chair. Traditionally made with ash components and an ash or elm seat, finished with Danish oil and hot wax.
These chairs are handmade to order. For pricing and commissioning information, please see the Pricing & Commission page.
