Hello, I’m Alex. At the beginning of 2026, I took over windsorchair.co.uk.
Originally from Somerset, I returned from London to continue the tradition of chairmaking established by Colin Foxhall, a skilled craftsman and mentor, under whom I completed a full apprenticeship in 2021. During that time, I crafted a range of traditional Windsor chairs and furniture, learning not just the techniques, but the patience and care this heritage craft demands.
My background bridges design and making: I hold a First Class Honours degree in Designer Making and a Master’s in Interaction Design from UCL. For four years, I worked in some of London’s leading design studios, including Cox London, creating bespoke furniture, lighting and artwork. That work developed my technical precision, material knowledge, and eye for detail, skills I now bring into chairmaking.
Although my career in design was rewarding, I felt a natural pull back to working with wood and my own hands — to the quiet rhythm of the workshop and craftsmanship that feels deeply rooted in history, place, and purpose.
With the rising need to preserve traditional skills and for honest, well-made furniture, I feel privileged to carry on Colin’s legacy and keep this important craft alive here in Somerset.
